The Carcross/Tagish First Nation is recognized and established under the traditional law of the Tlingit/Tagish descent. The Carcross/Tagish Indian Band is recognzied as a Band under the Indian Act of Canada. Carcross/Tagish First Nation is adopting a constitution based on its traditional clan system.

3. Who are the aboriginal people represented by the First Nation?
The aboriginal people represented by the Carcross/Tagish First Nation are aboriginal people of the Tlingit/Tagish descent who have traditionally used and occupied the lands in southwest Yukon and northwest British Columbia.

4. How many aboriginal people are represented by the First Nation?
Approximately 600 people

Carcross/Tagish First Nation through its Constitution had a general assembly on June 13 - 14, 1997, and instructed the Council to negotiate a modern treaty with the Governments of Canada and British Columbia. A copy of the resolution is attached.
