The Champagne and Aishihik First Nations are recognized and established under the traditional law of the Southern Tutchone. In addition, the Champagne and Aishihik Indian Bands are recognized as Bands under the Indian Act of Canada. The Champagne and Aishihik First Nations signed a Self-Government Agreement dated May 29, 1993 with the Governments of Canada and Yukon and this Agreement will recognize the inherent rights of Champagne and Aishihik to be self governing First Nations.

Copies of the Champagne and Aishihik Final Land Claim Agreement and the Champagne and Aishihik Self-Government Agreement are available.

The aboriginal people represented by the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations are aboriginal people of Southern Tutchone and Tlingit descent who have traditionally used and occupied the lands in southwest Yukon and in northwest British Columbia.

Champagne and Aishihik First Nations represent approximately 1100 people.

Champagne and Aishihik through its constitution have a general assembly which develops the policy for the Council of Champagne and Aishihik First Nations. As part of this policy, the general assembly has instructed the Council to negotiate a modern treaty with the Governments of Canada, Yukon and British Columbia. Band Council Resolution attached.
