Klahoose has been established under both traditional law and, more recently, under legislation. Klahoose has existed as a nation for thousands of years. This has been established through our oral histories. Klahoose has also been recognized by British Columbia and Canada under the Indian Act.

Homalco, Sliammon and Kwakiutl.

6. What is the First Nation's traditional territory in BC?
Starting in the southwest in the Strait of Georgia including Savary Island and a portion of Malaspina Peninsula, then extending northeast to include portions of the Powell River drainage basin; then continuing northeast, then north, then southwest to include the entire Toba River watershed; and then continuing southwest to include the Brem River, the Quatum River, Maurelle Island, and a portion of Quadra Island. Klahoose Territory includes the water bodies of Strait of Georgia, Sutil Channel, Calm Channel, Desolation Sound, Pryce Channel, Homfray Channel, and Toba Inlet. Major land bodies within Klahoose Territory include Savary Island, Hernando Island, a portion of Malaspina Peninsula, Marina Island, Cortes Island, a portion of Quadra Island, Read Island, Maurelle Island, Raza Island, Redonda Islands; and the drainage basins of Forbes Creek, Powell River, Toba River, Tahumming River, Brem River and Quatum River.
