Created in December 1957, by the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, with the amalgamation of the Fort Babine and Old Fort Bands.

The Lake Babine Band Council represents all members of the Woyenne, Tachet and Wi'tat communities, as well as registered band members residing outside of the reserves.
