Nazko is officially established as a band within the meaning of the Indian Act and is a First Nation community under Southern Carrier traditional law.

3. Who are the aboriginal people represented by the First Nation?
The aboriginal people represented by Nazko are the members of the First Nation community of Nazko who are of Southern Carrier ancestry, and include former members and descendants of the Blackwater and Euchinico Bands, which bands joined the Nazko Band.

4. How many aboriginal people are represented by the First Nation?
Approximately 300.

There are a few aboriginal people (estimated to be less than 15), mostly from other Southern Carrier communities, residing within Nazko's traditional territory.

How did you receive your Mandate? (Please provide documentation)
A band council resolution is attached. The band membership authorized the Nazko Band Government (then called "Nazko Band Council") to file a Comprehensive Claim submission in 1981. The Claim, which was filed jointly with a claim by the Kluskus Band, was accepted by Canada for negotiations on October 24, 1983. By filing this Statement of Intent the Band Government is carrying out the intent of the 1981 submission.
